Palms price cleanly: how tall, how many, how overgrown, and what has to leave the property. The one thing that never helps the bill is over-cutting — stripped palms come back needier.
Height first: a 12-foot palm is pole-saw work from the ground; a 40-footer is a climb or a lift — the single biggest price step. Count second: setup, travel and cleanup happen once per visit, so palms two through ten each cost meaningfully less than palm one; bundling with a neighbor genuinely works. Load third: seed pods and fruit stalks (queen palms especially) add cutting and surprising haul weight; a palm three years overdue carries triple the material of one on schedule. Access last: over a pool cage, against wires (see the safe sequence on our power-line page), or behind a tight gate — honest quotes name these up front.
Why the “extra rows” pitch costs you money
The upsell sounds efficient: take more fronds so the palm “lasts longer” between trims. The biology runs the other way — palms move potassium out of older fronds into new growth, so stripping green fronds starves the head, forces faster and weaker regrowth, and (per UF’s post-hurricane research) makes crown loss in storms MORE likely. The 9-to-3 standard — nothing green above horizontal comes off — isn’t fussiness; it’s why properly maintained palms cost less per year and survive September.
The schedule discount, explained
Most Pinellas palms want attention roughly annually. On-schedule palms are quick, light, predictable work, and we price them that way; the same palms “caught up” after years of neglect are a bigger job at a bigger number, often with a nutrition problem nobody was watching. If you’ve got a yard full of palms, ask about a standing cadence — it’s the honest version of a discount.

Why do multiple palms cost less per palm?

Do seed pods and fruit stalks cost more to remove?
